Kendrick Lamar’s impact on the modern hip-hop scene is unprecedented. The 14-time Grammy Award-winning rapper, producer, and writer have heavily influenced many young listeners with his imposing and authentic lyricism. Lamar’s works consist of socially-conscious stories topped with poetic awakenings. His creativity has been fundamental to his writing style, which is why Lamar has earned the coveted Pulitzer Prize, something which no other hip-hop artist has achieved before. His 2017 album Damn displayed exemplary lyrics that spoke of social injustice and everyday struggles that black people are experiencing in America. The Pulitzer Prize committee described his work as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”
Kendrick Lamar has also won numerous other accolades, such as 14 Grammy Awards, achieved throughout his almost two-decade career. Lamar earned his first Grammy Awards with his 2015 hit single, “i,” for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. The album, To Pimp A Butterfly, which spawned “i,” also won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The album continued to release Grammy-winning singles, like “Alright,” which won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song the following year. After a stellar series of wins for his chart-topping third album, Lamar continued to win big for his subsequent albums.
The rapper on the rise, Baby Keem, who happens to be Lamar’s cousin, joins the much-awaited tour. In 2021, Baby Keem released his debut album, The Melodic Blue, which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and charted in 17 other countries, including Australia, the U.K., and Canada. The album was preceded by hit singles “Durag Activity” and “Family Ties.”
